How does SEO differ for residential homes, nursing homes and care groups?
An independent residential care home usually needs one strong account of its location, care types, environment and visiting arrangements. A nursing home also needs an accurate explanation of the nursing support it actually offers. Do not add a nursing keyword to a home that does not provide that service.
A group needs to help families choose between distinct homes without confusing them with the corporate site. We map each home’s care types, location and contact route, then decide which information belongs centrally and which must stay specific to the home. The care website checklist is a useful starting point.
How should a three-home group organise location pages?
Do not create identical pages for surrounding towns that imply additional homes. When a home changes name or a site is rebuilt, map old URLs to their closest genuine replacement and check profile links as well as website navigation.
If families cannot navigate between homes or reach the appropriate enquiry team, care home website design can improve the structure and journey. We assess whether the current site can be improved before recommending a rebuild.
Which trust information helps families decide?
Useful trust information is specific and checkable: the care types genuinely available, the environment, facilities, team responsibilities, visiting and assessment arrangements, and approved photographs of the actual home. Explain fees or funding processes only as far as the provider can accurately support.
For homes in England, link to the current CQC record and check how ratings must be displayed. Do not copy an old rating into an image and forget it. Use the appropriate regulator in the other UK nations. Review quotations and photographs for permission, currency and privacy; never manufacture testimonials or imply clinical outcomes.
Keeping this information accurate is ongoing work. Our website management service can support an agreed review process, while the home remains responsible for approving its facts.
How do organic search, Google profiles and Carehome.co.uk fit together?
Organic website results lead to pages you control. Google Business Profiles support local discovery under Google’s eligibility and presentation rules. Carehome.co.uk is a separate directory where families compare homes under that platform’s listing and enquiry arrangements. Success on one channel does not guarantee placement on another.
Give each channel the same approved name, contact details and care information, while making the content useful for that platform. Where appropriate, a home’s Google profile should link to that home’s page rather than a group homepage. Review the Carehome.co.uk profile checklist and directory comparison before purchasing listing features.
What happens in a care home SEO audit?
Confirm the homes, care types, locations and commercial priorities with the operator; distinguish care enquiries from job applications.
Review indexing, canonicals, sitemap coverage, legacy redirects and whether each home is discoverable through normal HTML links.
Test mobile reading, image sizes, navigation and the enquiry journey, including whether a selected home survives form submission.
Map searches to home and care-type pages; identify missing answers, duplicated pages and opportunities to improve existing content.
Review eligible Google profiles and relevant directory listings for incorrect or stale information.
Deliver a prioritised action list stating the evidence, proposed change, owner, approval needed and method of verification.
The audit should result in decisions rather than an unexplained score. Urgent broken enquiry routes take priority over a minor metadata preference. We separate fixes your team can make from work requiring development or an ongoing content scope.
What will the engagement and reporting look like?
After the initial conversation we agree access, deliverables, approvals and the implementation sequence. Care information is reviewed by the provider before publication. We keep a change log so reported activity can be tied to actual changes.
Reporting can review relevant query visibility, landing pages, local profile interactions and successful enquiries where measurement is available. Compare homes individually as well as the group overall; a group total can hide a home with a broken contact route.
A family may already know the home through a professional referral, recommendation or directory. Separate branded searches and referral visits where attribution permits. A form submission or contact click is an indicator, not proof of a suitable admission; your enquiry records provide that context.
Enquiry quality and occupancy also depend on capacity, fees, reputation, assessment and operations. SEO cannot guarantee occupancy or a top Google position. The useful question is whether more suitable families can find accurate information and take the next step.
Why might a care home be missing from Google?
First distinguish a missing website result from a missing Google Business Profile. For the website, check the actual HTTP response, robots directives, canonical URL, sitemap and Search Console indexing evidence. A noindex directive, broken page or unintended redirect needs a technical correction before more articles are commissioned.
For a local profile, check ownership, eligibility, verification, accurate categories and any issue reported in the authorised account. Follow Google’s business representation guidelines and local ranking explanation. Do not assume a particular rating, review schedule or schema change will secure a position.
Then review whether the home’s pages explain its genuine services, location and enquiry route. Organic search and Maps have different diagnostics; finding the cause needs evidence rather than a promise that every missing result has the same fix.
Real care experience. A more useful approach.
ElderIndex’s founder, Josh, has worked in care home management, operations and customer relations. That informs the questions we ask, the information we prioritise and the way we think about each enquiry.
Yes. A single home may benefit most from improving its existing location information, eligible Google profile, directory consistency and enquiry route before considering extra pages.
Does nursing home SEO need a separate website?+
Not usually. Explain nursing provision accurately on the relevant home and service pages. We separate information when it helps families understand genuine differences, not simply to target a synonym.
How do you prioritise a multi-home group?+
We review home-level visibility and enquiries, operational priorities and technical issues, then agree an implementation sequence. Group-wide templates must still allow each home to explain its actual offering.
Can you maintain directory profiles too?+
Yes, under an agreed directory management scope and authorised access. Platform fees and placement rules remain controlled by the directory.
Will you guarantee enquiries or occupancy?+
No. We agree the work and measurement, explain limitations and report evidence. Occupancy and suitable admissions depend on factors well beyond SEO.
